Google Pixel 6 News: Google has officially unveiled the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, which will be available later this year. Both smartphones have been introduced, and they appear to be significantly different from previous-generation Pixel phones in terms of appearance.

Along with the redesigned design, Google has followed Apple’s lead and used its own Tensor SoC to power the two phones.

When the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are released this autumn, they will ship with Android 12 and Google’s Material You design approach.

Google’s Senior Vice President of Devices and Services, Rick Osterloh, revealed the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro smartphones in a blog post. Instead of the usual XL model, Google has opted to totally revamp the Pixel phone and create a Pro edition.

The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro have the same basic design, with the exception of the screen size, camera lenses, and a few functions.

The camera module is a projecting strip, dubbed the “camera bar” by Google, that spans the length of the phones and holds larger sensors than the previous Pixel phones.

The Pixel 6 series retains the dual-tone design, with the power and volume buttons on the right side and a blank left.

The Pro version has a polished aluminium frame, whilst the non-Pro version has a matte aluminium frame. The selfie camera has a single, centrally positioned hole-punch design, and each model appears to have three colour possibilities.

The design of the Pixel 6 series, in particular, matches the renders that were released in early May.

Google has put its custom-built SoC dubbed Tensor on the inside, which will now power the Pixel phones. Previous rumours said that the next Pixel phones will utilise an in-house built SoC dubbed ‘GS101’ Whitechapel.

When it comes to computational photography models, Tensor provides for “whole new capabilities, as well as enhancements to current ones.”

The Pixel 6 series also features a new security core and Titan M2 security chip, according to Google, giving it the “most levels of hardware protection in any phone.”

In terms of software, Google revealed at Google I/O in May that the Pixel 6 series will run Android 12 with Material You design.

Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro display

The Pixel 6 Pro will sport a 6.7-inch QHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate, according to Dieter Bohn of The Verge. The screen is somewhat curved, and there are three camera sensors on the rear, which may be seen in Google’s blog post photos.

A new wide-angle main sensor, a secondary sensor with an ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 4X optical-zoom foldable telephoto lens are all included in the configuration.

The main wide-angle sensor is supposed to take in 150 percent more light, resulting in increased photo detail. On the other side, the Pixel 6 is said to have a 6.4-inch full-HD+ flat screen with a 90Hz refresh rate.

In terms of cameras, it has a dual camera system, as seen in the official pictures, with the telephoto lens missing. Both phones are believed to include fingerprint sensors built into the display.

Bohn and other members of the press were also shown camera samples comparing the Pixel 6 series against the Pixel 5 and the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

More intriguingly, there was also a demonstration of the near-instantaneous speech-to-text function, which allowed users to use the keyboard while dictating and modifying the words.

Despite the lack of definite pricing details, the Pixel 6 series is expected to be “a premium-priced device,” according to a report by The Verge citing Osterloh.
